Local Educators Making a Difference
Hello Friends,
As the school year comes to an end, we would like to recognize local outstanding elementary, middle, and high school staff members who have exhibited superior dedication and unique determination in fulfilling their job responsibilities. This month we would like to recognize 3 extraordinary staff members from Augusta County Public Schools.
These awards serve to highlight teachers and staff members at local schools that are nominated by their peers for going above and beyond in their service to their students and colleagues. The A+ Educators Awards are our way of saying thank you to the teachers and staff making a difference. Each of the current winners will receive a gift certificate to Remedy Burger in Downtown Staunton to celebrate their greatly valued success!

Winner: Nick Walge
Position: English Teacher/Yearbook Advisor
School: Fort Defiance High School
Mr. Walge is an English teacher and the Yearbook Advisor at Fort Defiance High School. He spends a considerable amount of time working with students in and out of the classroom in order to provide an engaging instructional experience while developing the annual yearbook for FDHS. In addition to the photography, journalism, editing, and graphic design aspects that go into developing a yearbook, he has now added a student Podcast as part of the Yearbook team experience. We appreciate the work he does to incorporate the 5 C’s and for bringing 21st century skills and experiences into the yearbook process. Mr. Walge has also been a part of the division’s Essay Portfolio Review Committee which is responsible for reviewing student writing portfolios to determine verified credits for writing which is a graduation requirement at the High School level. We appreciate Mr. Walge’s collaboration with his colleagues both at FDHS and across the division in order to meet the needs of students. Thank you again to these amazing teachers who make such a difference to their students and community!
