Meet the Latest A+ Educators - February 2025
Time to recognize our community's latest group of A+ Educators! This email includes nominees from February who have been selected by their peers for going above and beyond in their service to their students and colleagues. The A+ Educators Awards are our way of saying thank you to the teachers and staff in our communities.
Each of these winners receives a gift certificate sponsored by Lingo Networks to Blu Point Seafood / Zynodoa in Downtown Staunton to celebrate their success!
Elementary School Winner: Lexi Little
Position: 4th Grade Teacher
School: Clymore Elementary School
Our Elementary A+ Educator of the Month is Lexi Little. Ms. Little is a 4th grade teacher at Clymore Elementary and is an incredible educator. She is reflective, resilient, and professional in all settings.
Ms. Little strives to provide her students with evidence-based instruction, teaches to mastery, and holds students accountable for high expectations while fostering positive relationships. She has a positive attitude and cares deeply about the well-being of her students, teammates, and school. She is a role model and example of excellence for teachers who are new to the profession. We appreciate Ms. Little for being a role model to her students and to her colleagues and are thankful for all she does for her students in the classroom.
Middle School Winner: Sharon Shumate
Position: History & Social Studies Teacher
School: Wilson Middle School
Sharon Shumate is the Middle School A+ Educator of the Month. She is an outstanding History/Social Studies teacher at Wilson Middle School and her passion for teaching and care for her students is evident in all that she does.
Mrs. Shumate is a veteran teacher who has taught a variety of subjects. She is currently teaching 7th grade history/social studies. Mrs. Shumate takes time to get to know her students so that she can be responsive to their individual needs, as well as build a strong sense of classroom community. Her lessons engage her students deeply in the content so that they can develop not only historical knowledge and skills, but also develop empathy for others through their experiences in her classroom. Mrs. Shumate is a deserving recipient of the Lingo Teacher of the Month and we appreciate her passion for her content and compassion for her students.
High School Winner: Ashley Shifflett
Position: Physics Teacher
School: Stuarts Draft High School
We want to recognize Ashley Shifflett as our High School A+ Educator of the Month. Mrs. Shifflett is a great example of dedication, perseverance, and excellence in education. She has continuously evolved to meet the needs of her students with passion and skill.
She started out as a middle school math teacher, then science teacher, and Mrs. Shifflett is now a Physics teacher at Stuarts Draft High School. Her ability to break down challenging concepts and bring physics to life through hands-on labs, problem-solving tasks, and real-world applications has been transformative for her students.
Ashley’s passion for teaching is evident in everything she does. She seamlessly integrates the instructional strategies she developed while working in middle school, and has adapted them for her high school students with remarkable success. We appreciate her hands on approach to learning and her ability to make physics come to life for her students.
