Equipping for the Future: Recognizing Our February A+ Educators

Spotlight on Success: This Month’s A+ Educator Award Recipients

Each month during the school year, Augusta County Public Schools proudly celebrates three remarkable educators through our A+ Educator Awards program. Nominated by their peers, these individuals are recognized for their unwavering dedication, innovative teaching, and profound impact on students. This month, we are excited to shine a spotlight on three outstanding teachers who truly represent the best in education right here in our community.

Elementary Teacher of the Month: Melody Parsons

“This month, we would like to celebrate Mrs. Melody Parsons as our Elementary Teacher of the Month.  This year in 5th grade at Churchville Elementary School Mrs. Parsons teaches reading and writing to all 5th graders.  Mrs. Parsons goes above and beyond to ensure student needs are met, which directly supports student progress. Her interactions with students and staff are respectful and caring. She consistently supports colleagues and contributes to a positive team culture. She takes a leadership role with new programs and demonstrates familiarity with implementation. Mrs. Parsons invests her time meeting and communicating with parents and likes to share and brag about her students' growth.

We appreciate all that Mrs. Parsons does to be a champion for her students and helping her students grow in their literacy learning.”

Middle School Teacher of the Month: Theresa Moore

“Theresa Moore is our Middle School Teacher of the Month.  Mrs. Moore has been a teacher and reading specialist for many years and is currently the Intervention Specialist at Buffalo Gap Middle School and works with students on all three grade levels.  Mrs. Moore is a kind, student-centered, and deeply caring educator who meets learners where they are and helps them grow with confidence. Guided by data and ongoing assessment, she thoughtfully designs targeted interventions that address individual needs while celebrating her student’s strengths. Mrs. Moore builds trusting relationships, creating a safe and supportive environment where students feel seen, valued, and capable of success. By combining her years of instructional expertise with empathy and high expectations, Mrs. Moore empowers her students to overcome challenges, develop essential skills, and make meaningful academic progress.”

High School Teacher of the Month: Megan Shifflett

“Megan Shifflett is our High School Teacher of the Month.  Ms. Shifflett is a Spanish teacher at Wilson Memorial High school.

Ms. Shifflett is an excellent teacher and colleague. In her classroom she works to design lessons that are engaging and help students gain a better understanding of the Spanish language and Spanish speaking cultures. Ms. Shifflett is also a leader within her building and across the division. She readily shares her knowledge of using technology effectively to enhance the instruction in her classroom with colleagues across content areas. She also takes a lead role in working with and supporting other Spanish teachers across the division.

For these reasons and many others, Ms. Shifflett is our High School Teacher of the Month.”
