Great Teachers, Great Impact: Our Year-End A+ Educator Awards
🎉 As another school year wraps up, let’s give a big final cheer for our newest A+ Educators!
In this post, we’re proud to highlight the latest group of honorees—teachers and staff who’ve been recognized by their peers for their dedication, passion, and the extra care they bring to their schools and students every day.
The A+ Educator Awards are our way of celebrating these everyday champions who make a lasting difference in the lives they touch.
To help them kick off summer on a high note, each honoree will receive a gift certificate—thanks to Lingo Networks—to enjoy a well-deserved treat at Remedy Burger in Downtown Staunton. 🌞🍔 Cheers to a great summer ahead!
Elementary School Winner: Martha Moore
Position: Kindergarten Teacher
School: Craigsville Elementary School
Martha is an exceptional kindergarten teacher at Craigsville Elementary School, known for her patience, kindness, and genuine care for her young learners. She approaches instruction with intention and thoughtfully structures her groups to ensure every student receives the support they need to thrive. Martha fosters strong communication with parents, building partnerships that benefit her students' growth and success. Her classroom is filled with engaging activities that make learning fun, and her students truly love being at school.
Beyond the classroom, Martha is a dedicated colleague who takes on numerous roles, including previously serving on the Early Childhood Committee, acting as the Parent-Teacher representative, and co-chairing the CRES Social Committee. She consistently works behind the scenes to meet school needs without seeking recognition, and she collaborates seamlessly with her co-teachers to share resources, plan events, and support students. We thank Ms. Moore for her dedication to student learning and building a positive community at Craigsville Elementary School.
Middle School Winner: Paige Edwards
Position: Family & Consumer Science Teacher
School: Stuarts Draft Middle School
Paige has been a leading Choir Director in Augusta County Schools for many years. Last year, Paige decided to make a dramatic change and took the position of FCS teacher at Stuarts Draft Middle School. Paige proved to be just as committed to FCS and FCCLA as she had been to choir.
In her first year as an FCS teacher, Paige guided her students into the FCCLA State Convention and has a student who is now a state officer on the State FCCLA Board. This is a highly competitive position that requires the student to receive additional guidance and mentoring from Paige. Paige is continuing her efforts on behalf of her students by preparing them to go to the National FCCLA Convention in Orlando, Florida, in July. We appreciate Mrs. Edward’s continuing commitment to ACPS students and the exploration of interests and careers through exploratory education.
High School Winner: Austin Gilbert
Position: Choral/Music Teacher
School: Wilson Memorial High School
We are proud to recognize Mr. Austin Gilbert for his outstanding contributions to WMHS and its music program. In just three years, Mr. Gilbert has prepared students for success at county, district, and state levels. He even made it possible for several students to participate in a workshop with world-renowned composer Eric Whitacre in New York City.
Mr. Gilbert brings deep knowledge of music, strong instructional delivery, and a keen understanding of his students' needs—academically, socially, and emotionally. He works closely with fine arts colleagues, parents, and administration, and supports our community by sponsoring the Singing Sergeants, Tri-M Honor Society, and directing the school musical.
Above all, Mr. Gilbert exemplifies professionalism, collaboration, and commitment. We are grateful for the energy, talent, and care he brings to WMHS every day. Congratulations, Mr. Gilbert
